What is the meaning of Sapere?

Sapere in Latin carries the literal meaning “to learn through experience.” Its Italian, Spanish, and French derivations all mean “to know” or “to be wise.”

So what?!?

This blog is dedicated to Sapere NOW….to know NOW.  To experience and learn via this precious moment of NOW.

Three Letters

If you can OWN right NOW, you have WON.

I coined this phrase a couple of weeks ago as I was in a sprinkler park with my sons.  As a multi-tasking parent, my mind seems to be constantly thinking about what needs to be done….or who needs to be done?!?  [laugh here]  Which kid needs what?  Or oh yeah…what does my husband need?  And last but not least, what do I need?

At that current moment, I stopped and pondered three letters O….W….N and then what words can be formed from those letters.  My mind flashed to Owen (which is my father’s name) even though it has four letters, it sounds like OWN. I think about Owen (Shorty) a lot since his passing six years ago.  My next thought was about finding peace with his death and missing him each and every day even though years have passed.  In just a few moments, my mind circled to the conclusion that I had to OWN my feelings (past and present) and live in this unreplaceable beautiful moment…this flash in the pan.

So I did what any adult who’s in touch with their inner child would do…I got up and played in the sprinklers!

Yes… NOW.

Thinking About Not Thinking

One of my favorite questions used to be:  “Are you a deep thinker?”  I used to enjoy getting into deep conversations with those who affirmed that in fact, they could go deep….

I don’t ask that question anymore.  Primarily because what I’ve experienced about ’thinking’ and ‘thought.’   My experiences tell me that thoughts are more powerful than the day is long….and that the actual process of thinking can be a double-edged sword.  We can think and think and think about something and actually realize (in part) the effects…the good, the bad and the ugly.  As I continue to explore life and all of it’s mysteries, I believe that wisdom isn’t the result of thinking; wisdom is achieved by not thinking.

Clarity comes from silencing thoughts not generating them.   Peace is achieved in the void, in this space, the timeless which can be found anywhere at anytime.  Yes, you guessed it, right NOW.

So the next time someone asks you a tough question and you want to respond with “I’ll think about it”…please take a deep breath and consider derailing the thought train…  Be still, be quiet, be in the moment and the answer will come to you.
